The Senior Life Insurance Underwriter evaluates complex applications for individual and corporate life insurance policies to assess risk levels. This position balances the company's financial risk appetite with market competitiveness by analyzing medical records, financial statements, and occupational hazards. The underwriter determines policy eligibility, sets appropriate premium rates, and applies exclusions based on mathematical risk modeling.

Responsibilities

Review and analyze high-value or complex insurance applications, including medical histories, financial data, and third-party inspection reports.

Assign appropriate risk classifications and determine coverage limits or premium loadings in strict alignment with corporate underwriting guidelines.

Collaborate closely with corporate actuaries to assess the performance of existing risk models and suggest updates to pricing strategies.

Communicate underwriting decisions, modifications, and declines clearly to field agents, brokers, and relationship managers.

Mentor junior underwriters and conduct regular quality audits on standard risk assessments to ensure consistency across the department.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or Pre-Medicine.

4+ years of experience in life or health insurance underwriting.

Professional certification such as ALU (Associate, Life Underwriting) or FLMI (Fellow, Life Management Institute) is highly preferred.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret intricate medical and financial documentation.
